Evidence-Based Clinical Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a cornerstone modality of Traditional Chinese Medicine designed to activate the body's innate neuro-physiological repair mechanisms. At Milada TCM Clinic in Chiang Mai, we seamlessly bridge ancient channel theory with contemporary neuro-anatomy. By employing ultra-fine, sterile, single-use surgical needles, our treatments deliver safe, targeted, and drug-free therapeutic relief for chronic pain, systemic internal dysfunction, and stress-related autonomic disorders.

Clinical evidence reviews by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) include research on acupuncture as a complementary intervention for a range of pain and functional conditions; the strength of evidence varies by condition. Milada TCM Clinic adheres strictly to international sterile procedures to ensure pristine clinical safety in Chiang Mai.

Clinical Mechanisms & Therapeutic Benefits

Autonomic Nervous System Regulation & Endorphin Release

Acupuncture stimulation triggers central nervous system release of endogenous opioids (beta-endorphins and enkephalins), rapidly dampening nociceptive pain pathways and rebalancing sympathetic-parasympathetic tone.

Recommended For: Chronic stress, tension headaches, generalized anxiety, sleep latency issues, and functional somatic disorders.
Clinical Precautions & Contraindications: Uncontrolled acute psychosis or manic states where patient cooperation on the treatment table cannot be safely maintained.

Myofascial Decompression & Trigger Point Inactivation

Precise needle placement releases local muscular hypertonicity, dismantles rigid fascial adhesions, and enhances microcirculatory wash-out of metabolic waste products (such as substance P and bradykinin).

Recommended For: Office syndrome, cervical spondylosis, chronic lower back pain, sciatica, rotator cuff tendinopathy, and athletic strain injuries.
Clinical Precautions & Contraindications: Acute unreduced fractures, active joint dislocations, or open cutaneous ulcerations.

Systemic Anti-Inflammatory & Immune Modulation

Research confirms acupuncture modulates the vagal-adrenal anti-inflammatory axis, attenuating pro-inflammatory cytokine cascades and promoting systemic homeostatic balance.

Recommended For: Chronic inflammatory presentations, allergic rhinitis, digestive inflammation, and recovery from post-viral exhaustion.
Clinical Precautions & Contraindications: Severe neutropenia, active bacteremia, or patients undergoing high-dose immunosuppressive crises without prior medical clearance.

Microvascular Perfusion & Tissue Regeneration

Localized vasodilation delivers oxygenated blood and reparative cellular nutrients to hypoxic, chronically ischemic soft tissues, accelerating collagen synthesis and cellular repair.

Recommended For: Joint osteoarthritis, chronic tendonitis, post-surgical scar remodeling, and chronic peripheral neuropathies.
Clinical Precautions & Contraindications: Severe bleeding diathesis or unmanaged profound thrombocytopenia.

Standard Acupuncture Treatment Process

1

Comprehensive Assessment & Palpation

We assess the cause and location of your condition through the four TCM examinations, combined with anatomical palpation of muscles and ligaments and precise location of tender points to pinpoint where the meridians are blocked.

2

Sterile, Precise Needling with Deqi

Strict medical disinfection protocol with ultra-fine sterile needles, using gentle tube-needling technique and lifting-thrusting / twirling manipulation to elicit the deqi sensation of soreness, numbness, distension, and heaviness along the meridians.

3

Restful Retention with Electro & Thermal Support

Needles are retained for 20–30 minutes as you rest in a quiet private treatment room; where indicated, gentle micro-current stimulation or TDP lamp warmth is added to support the unblocking effect.

4

Needle Removal & Lifestyle Guidance

Needles are carefully counted and removed under sterile conditions, with pressure applied to each point. Dr. Fan personally advises on daily routine, protection from wind and cold, and food therapy suited to your constitution.
